For a really unique experience, follow the Copper Coast Geo Park between Tramore and Dungarvan, an idyllic stretch of rugged coastline that passes through charming towns and villages. There are guided trails especially for kids and adults, where you can learn about different habitats and the environment, including rocks, animal and plant life. It is a charming area of unparalleled beauty. Oceans, volcanoes, deserts and ice sheets all combined to create the rocks, which provide the physical foundation of the natural and cultural landscapes of the Copper Coast. Tramore is a fifty acre wonderland situated just 6 miles from Waterford City in the South East of Ireland. It is a good place to go for a family friendly day trip. It overlooks the town’s famous beach and has lots of fun rides and activities. It has a miniature train, a rollercoaster, bumper cars, a ghost train, pedal boats and rowing boats and lots more. Mount Congreve Estate and Gardens boasts of one of the biggest collections of rhododendrons in the world, certainly the biggest in Europe. Four acres of walled garden have been arranged into May, June, July and August borders, each filled with usual and unusual herbaceous plants. Nature loving members of the family will find this interesting.
Run Amuck Children’s Indoor Centre, Riverstown Business Park in Tramore is a children’s indoor play and party centre. Other family friendly facilities include a three level main play frame, three lane astra, slide, bumper boats, air guns, ball juggler, football zone, large party area, baby & toddler area & changing facilities. Parents can relax and unwind in the Mucky Angels Cafe which serves hot and cold food.
The kids will love a visit to the Copper Coast Mini-Farm where they can enjoy a few hours of getting up close and personal with some miniature ponies, pot-bellied pigs, chipmunks and more.
A trip to the famous Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre and the award winning Waterford Museum of Treasures in Waterford City may also be interesting and educational. The visitor centre is a true centre of excellence boasting a splendid new showroom where the many prestigious pieces presented to presidents, sport stars and celebrities are showcased. The Waterford Crystal experience is unique in that you are visiting a real working, living, breathing factory.
There’s something for all ages at Dunmore East Adventure Centre. Younger kids, aged 5 to 7, can join the Starfish club, while older kids, from 8 to 13, can join the Sharks for an action-packed week of adventure including kayaking, windsurfing, rock climbing and more. Older kids from 14 to 17, can meet new challenges with a higher skill level in canoeing, surf-skiing, and lots of other activities. It offers family friendly activities such as power-boating, rock-climbing, sailing, archery, windsurfing, kayaking, orienteering and much more
