There are lots of family friendly and child friendly things to see and do with the kids. Have a look also at our Family Events section for forthcoming family friendly events to entertain the kids.

Take a family guided tour of the Battle of the Boyne site in Drogheda. From the viewing platform, families can see the layout of the battlefield. There's a small information centre in a portakabin which has details available on the site.

Enjoy family friendly guided tours of Beaulieu House, Gardens and Car Museum in Drogheda. It has four acres of walled garden and a museum containing a collection of classic race and road cars with memorabilia. A family friendly tour of the house is available from 1st May to mid September.

Drogheda Town Market in Fair Street, Drogheda offers freshly grown farm produce, fresh cakes and bread, vegetables, fruit, flowers, clothing, hardware, toys, tools, jewellery and fancy goods on a wide range of open air stalls for some retail therapy.

Dundalk Ice Dome, Dundalk Retail Park, Dundalk offers family friendly ice hockey, curling and figure skating. The ice dome caters everybody, from the novice beginner to the international athlete. Public skating is available for all the family and skates are available to rent.

At Knockabbey Castle and Gardens in Louth Village, families can see these gardens in their final stages of restoration and also spend an afternoon strolling through thirty acres which include wildflower meadows, herbaceous borders, a victorian flower garden and restored glasshouse. There is a visitor centre and audio visual room with a film about the history of the estate. The estate is open from May to September, except on Mondays. Admission fees apply and there is a tour available.

Pirates Den, Coes Road, Dundalk is a large indoor area for children of all ages with areas designed for babies aged between 0-2yrs, toddlers 2-5yrs and the big kid’s zone for children aged 5 and over. The centre consists of ball pools, rope bridges, swing ropes, slides and learning areas, a cafe and lots more.

Stephenstown Pond Nature Park Burns Cottage in Knockbridge, Dundalk encompasses a five-acre site consisting of woodlands, lakeside walk and carp fishing decks. The beautifully restored 19th century cottage was the home of Agnes Burns and it explores the life and works of the poet. Relax in The Dairy Maid Coffee Shop which is situated in the Burns cottage.

Carlingford Adventure Centre has loads of activities for kids who want to burn up some energy outdoors and big kids who need a break from the office. There are activities that will suit children of all ages and abilities while adults can enjoy a huge range of outdoor activities including orienteering, canoeing, raft building and night navigation.

Take a walk on the many beaches in Louth including those in Termonfeckin, Clogherhead and enjoy the wonderful walk over the Head of Clogherhead which starts at the harbour.
