Winter Tour: “Provence Alps Family Adventure” 2009

This tour takes place near the family ski resort of Puy Saint Vincent, at the gateway to the Ecrins National Park. Tailor made to entertain all the family with winter activities, it is run as two options: family friendly hotel based or self-catering chalet based.

While snowshoeing, you will discover the mountain wild life and snow games through guided walks. If you can walk you can snowshoe and after 15 minutes of getting used to it you will have the best of fun!

Run in small groups (16 people max), the activities are designed to entertain children (recommended minimum age of 5 years old) and parents. Smaller siblings are welcome and crèche facilities are available at the resort.

Regular flights with Airlingus or Ryanair from Dublin to Turin, Lyon, Grenoble, and Milan Airports.France Outdoors will be happy to assist you to organise the airport transfer to the resort.

Itinerary: 8days / 7 nights

DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Welcome by Florence, your local French native English speaking guide in the PUY-SAINT-VINCENT resort.
DAY 2: GETTING YOUR FEET ON THE SNOW
Acquaint yourself with the ski lift to an altitude of 2000 m from where we snowshoe down towards Tournoux while enjoying fantastic views of the Ecrins National Park Mountains.
DAY 3: BECOME A MUSHER FOR THE DAY – DOG SLEDDING
Enter the world of the mushers and experience the exhilaration of dog sledding. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon compiling a souvenir scrapbook of the holiday with Florence while giving Mum and Dad a well deserved break on their own!
DAY 4: VALLOUISE – WHAT IS SNOW? HOW DO I KNOW WHERE I AM?
Discover the secrets of snow: how to recognise the types of crystal, read a map, use a compass and so much more! In the Afternoon, we will visit a honey farm where the bee-keeper will share with us his passion for honey bees and we will enjoy a mouthwatering snack.
DAY 5: EXPLORE THE AREA AT YOUR OWN PACE
Alternatively, take a trip to Briancon (nominated as a UNESCO world heritage site) and sample its local market, shops (craft, fashion, local food) and its fantastic swimming pool. Possibility to try downhill ski at the resort.
DAY 6: EXPLORE ANIMAL TRACKS
You will be sufficiently comfortable with snowshoes and you can go tracking animals’ footprints. Jean-Michel, our wildlife expert, will show you how to differentiate between the prints and you will be amazed at how wildlife adapts in winter.
DAY 7: SKY MYSTERIES - As the United Nations Declares 2009 the International Year of Astronomy, we will celebrate it too!
Free morning break for parents. With the children, we will complete the scrapbook.
In the afternoon, we will go to the hut « Le Pas du Loup ». Here, in the remote village of “Les Bourniers”, Herve de Ruyker has established an observatory and an astronomy centre. During our visit, he will help us draw a sky map of the constellations and planets we will observe later that night. You will then be able to try out the impressive telescopes.
DAY 8: Spend the morning at your own pace in the resort and farewell!
