There are lots of great things to see and do with the kids here in Ireland and family friendly events, whether you are traveling with the kids or having a holiday here at home and it is always good to know what is on for families and there is no shortage of family events.
Family events and family friendly festivals entertain all of the family and there is nothing like family events to beat the recession blues. Have a look in particular for the children's arts festivals such as Flip Flop in Dun Laoghaire and Barbaro in Galway which are always delightful.
Some family friendly events are free, some are prebookable and some are theatrical extravaganzas. A good mix of all three is probably best and do not forget of course our wonderful festivals, beaches and parks which are always a big hit with the kids. Fetes and fairs are great choices too so check your local directories and listings as well to keep the kids entertained all year.
There are weekly workshops at most of Dublin’s museums and cultural centres including:
• The Sunday Sketching at the Hugh Lane Gallery.
• The Sunday’s ‘My Museum’ at Collins Barracks.
• The Saturday Family Programme at the National Gallery of Ireland.
• The Sunday Explorer for Families at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
• The Sunday’s Art Kart at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.
• The Saturday Art Workshops (every other Saturday) at the Hugh Lane Gallery.
There are also regular family and children's events run in Airfield, Draíocht, The Ark in Temple Bar,The National Library of Ireland, the National Print Museum, The Chester Beatty Library and by libraries and county councils all over the county so do look out for these and join in as they are great fun and a great way of having quality family time for free or at a nominal price.
